In every household there is at least one person who enjoys or used to enjoy fishing; fishing is a relaxing, rewarding (most of the times, depending on what type of fish you are after and place where you are fishing) and entertaining. Most recall it as a father son activity or a boys weekend out thing but, increasing amount of women have started enjoying this sport as well and therefore can make a whole family weekend adventure.

There are many species of salmon such as, Chinook, chum, pink salmon, and sockeye salmon which are usually referred to as Pacific salmon because those are the waters they are found most abundantly in. Salmon fishing is a pleasure especially in Alaskan waters where they literarily jump in your lap if you know the right places to fish.

It is recommended to hire a professional guide especially when you are salmon fishing in Alaska to make your experience wonderful and also abide by the law, as different types of regulations apply all over the state. Alaska is so popular for salmon fishing that there are special cruises and tours that are available only for this purpose alone.

If you live in the vicinity you probably have all the necessary gear for salmon fishing but if you don’t, you can hire them for the day or the trip especially when you are on a fishing expedition in places like Alaska where fishing is the main preoccupation. Cruises and tours can take you along the cost in cities such as, Juneau, the capital, Ketchikan and Seward.

You can also fish for salmon in the Michigan Lake, where it may not be as easy as salmon fishing in Alaska but it is as entertaining and relaxing. Expect to catch salmon anywhere from 25 to 40 pounds but in Alaska you may get surprised by some king salmon that reaches 65 –70 pounds and for which you will need some help to pull and bring back ashore.

On all fishing trip ensure you have the right gear and equipment in order to enjoy and also catch some fish; food and water is essential as well depending on how long you are planning to spend fishing.
